Students in Pre-k and elementary music classrooms are singing, dancing, improvising, composing, learning about music history and theory, and creating music in different ways. During classes, students are exposed to a variety of instruments including their own innate and most important instrument, their voice.
In additional to general music, elementary and middle school students participate in liturgical music classes where they sing music used in our school liturgies.
Music speaks to our hearts, causes us to feel emotion, and even helps us remember. It helps our students to become better students as it encourages students to focus, listen, concentrate, and remember. Learning music helps students in other subjects, such as math, science, reading, and languages. It enhances social skills and builds confidence. At Saint Francis of Assisi School, we educate the whole being, which includes a wonderful music curriculum. Students learn to not only appreciate music, but to become musicians themselves through writing, improvisation, movement, and performance.
