Parent Teacher Organization
It takes all of us to make St. Francis of Assisi a great school to be a part of. Our students are blessed to have the strong support of our families. We encourage you to sign up and volunteer this year. We can’t do it without you.
Who can volunteer?
A volunteer can be a St. Francis of Assisi teacher, staff member or any family member within a St. Francis of Assisi school or parish family. This can be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or adult sibling. The volunteer MUST be VIRTUS certified. It is our duty as members of this community of faith to be aware of how we can support and protect our children.
The “VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children” training is the adult safe-environment program being offered by the Diocese of Arlington. The Diocese requires all adult employees and also volunteers who have substantial contact with children to attend the seminar. This includes:
- School parents who chaperone field trips, volunteer in the classroom, etc.
- Coaches for all sports
- Boy Scout/Girl Scout leaders and assistants (regardless of whether they are parishioners)
- Confirmation Retreat volunteers
- Coaches for all sports
- Vacation Bible School volunteers
- All church and school employees
For further details on VIRTUS, visit the school website under ‘Faith ->VIRTUS training’.
St. Francis of Assisi School may host a seminar during the year. You must register to view a list of sessions available. Visit www.virtus.org to register.

Why should I volunteer?
St. Francis of Assisi school needs more than its teachers, office staff and PTO to run its fundraising activities. It takes many hands and full hearts to make each event at St. Francis a success.
How do I sign-up to volunteer?
The PTO utilizes a free website called SignUp Genius to organize volunteers for the various events at St. Francis of Assisi school. The site allows email reminders to be sent to volunteers for a particular event. If you’d like to volunteer then you must have a SignUp Genius logon (https://www.signupgenius.com/).
As an event is approaching, you will find its own webpage on the school website under ‘Fundraising’. There will be a SignUp Genius link specific to that event. When you click on the link you will find a list of ‘Items needed’ and/or the various volunteer opportunities available.
Here is an example of how to use SignUp Genius for a St. Francis of Assisi PTO event. SignUp Genius (pdf)
Where do I volunteer?
When you arrive at the school to volunteer, you must obtain a visitor’s pass from the school office. For security reasons, all volunteers who enter the school building must have a visitor’s pass.
