Healthy Children are Successful Learners

The Health Clinic provides interventional and preventive health services to the students, faculty and staff of St. Francis of Assisi School. Maintenance of a healthful school environment and ongoing wellness activities are also included within the scope of nursing practice in the school setting. Standards of care are determined by the policies of the Diocese of Arlington Office of Catholic Schools.

The school nurse provides direct health care to students and staff who have been injured or who present with acute illnesses. Also, the school nurse utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for students and staff with chronic health conditions. Medication administration, immunization review, health/vision screening and monitoring of communicable diseases are all coordinated by the school nurse in the Health Clinic.

The school nurse’s ultimate objective in the Health Clinic is to support the student’s success in the learning process.
