March 8, 2010 A Note from the Teacher: Friday, March 12th, the children will be dismissed at 11:30 due to a Diocesan in service. Thank you for your support in helping the children make a real world connection to the study of time by creating a schedule of how they spend their time from 4 pm until 8 pm. Thank you Mrs.Villazon, for coordinating our classroom basket for the annual school auction. Last Week Religion: First grade completed the unit, Come, Follow Jesus, A scripture Story. The children learned the word Gospel means “Good News.” We discussed the Apostles and the many Gospel stories about Jesus and his Apostles. We continued our discussion of the Lenten Season. Math: First grade began a unit on time. They identified visually and stated orally time to the hour and half hour, and displayed manipulatively time on clock models. Social Studies: We read and discussed Dr. Seuss and his books by reading Scholastic News. We learned that a news story needs to tell the “5W’s and H” questions. Science: First grade continued to study the basic characteristics of the human body, major organs. We learned that our kidneys filter the blood and the position of our kidneys. Language Arts: The Shrinking Mouse was the story of the week. The children read The Pond in Spring, reviewed predictions and inflectional ending ing. Adjectives and homophones were introduced. The children continued to enhance writing and spelling skills.
