Eighth Grade

Classroom Curriculum

The eighth grade year at St. Francis is full of exciting challenges as we prepare for the not too distant high school experience. Students are immersed in a rigorous schedule of classes to include religion, English, literature, history, science, math, Spanish, physical education/health, technology, and art. All subjects are aligned to the Diocese of Arlington Curriculum Guidelines. Algebra 1 (for qualifying students) and Spanish are offered for high school credit. In all classes, organizational skills, study skills, team work, and personal responsibility are stressed.

Eighth grade is also a special time for students as they continue their preparation for Confirmation (occurring in the fall or spring of the 8th grade year). In addition to studying and reviewing the basic tenets of our faith, students demonstrate their eagerness to actively witness their faith by participating in various service projects throughout the year. Highlights of our year include a trip to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and participation in the March for Life.

The eighth grade experience is a time of tremendous growth academically, spiritually, and emotionally. Looking back on the year as each class graduates in June, I am always extremely proud of the progress they have made!
